About Me

I'm a mommy blogger. As a mother that has suffered the loss of multiple children while becoming a mother of the bride to our oldest, raising 2 young adults, an 8 year old preemie and a 6 year old tornado, I have a lot to share. I can't guarantee you will agree with everything I say, but I think you may just enjoy it. This is our life, the good, bad and ugly. More about me.

Who would have Thought

May 15, 2011

That a poopie diaper would be such a big deal!!! They started giving her some of the breastmilk I have been working hard to pump, a couple nights ago. It's been a very, very small amount. At first a 1/2ml every 3 hours, then the next day 1ml every three hours, and then yesterday 2ml every three hours. This mornings findings...she pooped! This is a pretty big deal! :) It would appear that things are in working order.

Yesterday, we celebrated her week old status. That was exciting! The last two days, I was able to Kangaroo with her. Which means, holding her skin to skin on my chest, for a around an hour or so each time. It was amazing to feel her next to me, as she sweetly and happily slept, responding very well. It seems she likes it very much and feels calm and relaxed. It's an important part of her getting better. Babies who kangaroo sooner rather than later, respond better and spend less time in the NICU. Hopefully, Daddy will get a turn really soon. :)

Another big deal...she is slightly above her birth weight as of last night. They are working now to put weight on her. What little milk she has had is helping with that. They want more weight on the little gal before we can even think about taking her off of the ventilator.

So three big things this last couple days. All good things! They are taking her off of antibiotics today, if her cbc looks like it did 2 days ago. She may get another blood transfusion today as well. Tomorrow a follow up ultrasound on her head, to rule out bleeding in her brain, which was something that didn't show any problems on Friday. Can't think of anything else at the moment, but will update again when we have more news.

Keep praying, she is stable, but critically stable. Many, many more weeks ahead of us.
