About Me

I'm a mommy blogger. As a mother that has suffered the loss of multiple children while becoming a mother of the bride to our oldest, raising 2 young adults, an 8 year old preemie and a 6 year old tornado, I have a lot to share. I can't guarantee you will agree with everything I say, but I think you may just enjoy it. This is our life, the good, bad and ugly. More about me.

She's a Rockstar

May 24, 2011

The nurses love her; the doctors love her...she says jump, they all say, how high. And that's the way she likes it!

It's all true. :) She had three tests yesterday: Heart Echo, Chest X-Ray, Head Ultrasound. Today the results are in. Head Ultrasound: Negative for bleeding!!! Huge deal! Chest X-ray: Pulmonary Edema, going away and enough to just tweak the ventilator machine to get it to go away completely. Heart Echo: Her Neonatalogist says that her PDA is giving her gray hair, as it's still open slightly, but not enough to do anything about. While we wish it would just close already, it's so tiny that it's not too much of a worry. It does have to close at some point, so we are hopeful and going to pray that this week that pesky duct closes.

In other big news, which makes my little gal very happy...her milk intake continues to increase daily. Her feeding at 3pm this afternoon will bring her to a whopping 12cc's every 3 hours. We are hoping to chunk her up a bit. :) To put this in perspective a little, 12cc's is 4cc's off from being a tablespoon, so with every 3 feedings she is getting a little more than one ounce of milk total. (1 ounce = 30cc's) Keep in mind that her stomach isn't much larger than the size of a quarter, if that. In a full day she is getting slightly over 3 ounces of milk. Now she needs to start stock piling some fat to put on her skin and bones.

We are hearing comments about how strong she is, which is something I felt when I was pregnant with her. Her arms and legs have more strength than she needs. It's hard to contain her sometimes and when she isn't happy she grabs at tubes and wires and scares the Respiratory Therapist visibly. She is a little ninja. The other day when I was holding her she pushed her feet against the lower part of my stomach and had her boney little bottom sticking up to the sky, she wanted to show me how she can do push ups. We had a little trouble getting her to relax her legs to push her bum down. She thinks she is pretty funny. :)

That's the news for today. Our prayers this week: The PDA needs to close, and the Pulmonary Edema needs to go away. She also needs to start gaining more weight and doing a little better on the ventilator before they will even think about switching to a different type of breath support.

She is pretty amazing. Thank you for your continued prayers.
