About Me

I'm a mommy blogger. As a mother that has suffered the loss of multiple children while becoming a mother of the bride to our oldest, raising 2 young adults, an 8 year old preemie and a 6 year old tornado, I have a lot to share. I can't guarantee you will agree with everything I say, but I think you may just enjoy it. This is our life, the good, bad and ugly. More about me.

It was a LOOOOOONG Weekend

May 31, 2011

After the excitement from Friday and getting the ventilator changed, Marlo had other things in store.

Over the weekend we observed some pretty significant changes from her normal behavior.  It had us both on pins and needles for 3 extremely long days.  I can't explain to you the feeling of anxiety that we were having as we watched the monitors swing violently in the wrong directions.  Alarms blazing about every couple minutes and our hearts beating out of our chests...it was a realllllllllly long weekend.

Bradycardias (slow heartbeat) and DSAT's galore, that was our weekend.  She was tired, and made it 3 days doing her best to maintain the ability to take the breaths she needed on her own, but exhaustion won out, and to our relief, Monday afternoon she was intubated once again.  This was not what we hoped for, but we knew it was a huge possibility being that she is so small.   She lost weight over the last few days from working so hard to make her body work like a term infant.  She is teetering on the 2lb mark.  Hopefully when they weigh her tonight we will see an increase in weight once again.  We hope to try to change to the other form of ventilation when she has gained some more weight, and strength.  Who knows when that will be.  They seem to like to try these things sooner than we think they will.  These doctors shock us with what they are willing to try.

She is back to her normal feisty Marlo self yesterday and today.  Looking around, playing with her fingers in her mouth, grabbing anything she can get her hands on, kicking and squirming.  It was wonderful to see her feeling good and not so very sleepy.  :)

Today both Daddy and Mommy were able to hold little Marlo.  It was a good day.
