About Me

I'm a mommy blogger. As a mother that has suffered the loss of multiple children while becoming a mother of the bride to our oldest, raising 2 young adults, an 8 year old preemie and a 6 year old tornado, I have a lot to share. I can't guarantee you will agree with everything I say, but I think you may just enjoy it. This is our life, the good, bad and ugly. More about me.

You can be a big pig too!

Mar 25, 2010

Do you remember that song from Lion King?  Two days ago we took the family down to San Diego and made big pigs of ourselves, and all I could think about all the way home was this silly song.  :)  So here is a little recap of the day!

Our first stop in town was Con Pane, a yummy to drool over bakery.  Usually when we go it's just for their delicious cinnamon rolls, but this time I wanted to get their yummo sandwiches.  To my dismay they were out of turkey, I was pretty bummed but settled for a different sandwich that was good but not quite the same.  J got an ooey gooey grilled cheese, it wasn't your normal slap it in a pan grilled cheese either.  The kids, well they couldn't resist the cinnamon rolls.  So we loaded up our goodies and headed to Shelter Island for a picnic.

Eating was a challenge.  At the harbor the wind always blows, so our plates and napkins were all over the place.  We had to work hard to eat our food and keep everything on the table, it was actually kind of funny.

Next we played name that flavor of jelly bean.  Everyone did a pretty good job at this, they were crazy flavors like strawberry kiwi, banana, blueberry and pina colada.  We aren't big fans of jelly beans at our house, but trying to figure out what the flavors were, had us all interacting in a fun way.  I actually bought them for a cake I make for Easter.  So fun!

It was now time to break out the new frisbee disc and attempt to throw it in the wind.  This went well for about 10 minutes, until A threw toward J and I, neither of us could get it, and the silly thing landed on the bottle of Italian Soda sitting on our table spinning it around and breaking the bottle, shooting the soda all over.  This was the end of that game.  :)

Coffee was our next stop.  We were also props for some photos they were taking outside, trying to show lots of customers enjoying coffee at their shop.

We drove around looking at the sites, and there were certainly some interesting sites to see.  San Diego is pretty eclectic, full of all sorts of people.  Very interesting indeed!

So by this time, it was time for dinner.  We picked up the Bekster, and headed to the local carb happy restaurant close to her house.  This place was like no other, pasta stuffed in bread!  It was good, but in case that were not enough, Ben and J.errys was giving away free ice cream cones that day.

The ice cream was over by the docks where the cruise ships and such are located.  I love to see all the ships, so this was one of my favorite stops of the day.  Surprisingly the lines weren't that long for the free ice cream and we each got one scoop of our choice in a cone.  So good, and lucky for us there was another one within walking distance...haha.  I am completely serious!  Bek led the way, and they got another one. J and I shared one.  Can you say Oink, Oink!!!  This is why that song popped in my head.  All the walking we did that day worked some of it off for sure.  I am so glad for days like that day, but so glad as well that we don't eat like that every day.  It's fun every once in awhile.  :)
