Last week was busy, busy, and became chaotic by Friday.
Phil turned 16. I have a hard time believing this time came so fast, but alas, just like every other birthday when I say the same thing, I sound like a broken record. Really, though...16??
He is driving too! Bleck, two teenagers driving in one household is more than enough. Two more years until the next is legal... :)
Marlo came down with something on Friday night, and was feverish. She didn't want to eat, and was drinking very little. Saturday morning I ran her in to the Ped, who said she had an ear infection in her right ear. Sunday night I found her mouth to be a bloody mess, after I tried to brush off what I thought was food in her mouth. This then led to us taking her to the ER, since she hadn't eaten, or drank much at all and still had a fever, I felt compelled to get her seen immediately.
She was dehydrated, they needed a urine sample, which all led to us holding down a fighting mad toddler. Growling, and grunting and pulling, and screaming, and arching... You get the picture, right? Five grown adults held her down! An hour later she was still pretty fired up. That was fun! They diagnosed thrush, and a bladder infection, and said there was ABSOLUTELY NO ear infection. Nice.
She's had a fever since, and her mouth continued to get worse, which meant no eating, no drinking and up all night screaming. Worried that we would have to take her in for more IV fluids, we did all we could this week to get her to drink something, anything, whatever we could push we have and she reluctantly would take some on occasion.
Her follow up appointment at the Ped, (a different doc) who was skeptical that she had thrush, and wondered about the bladder infection as well. After getting the lab results from the hospital, they showed that there was not a bladder infection. (it takes at least a couple days to grow it in a lab to see if it's a true infection) So, we were told to stop antibiotics, and then we were told to stop thrush meds, because she thought it was sores in her mouth, and not thrush... Sheesh!
We've been at our wits end trying to keep her hydrated and fed, and felt like we were losing. I'm happy to be able to say that today, she seems to be doing better, and I was able to get her to eat breakfast. Seems as though her fever is gone as well.
It's been absolutely miserable, but I'm happy to see a smile on that sweet little face this morning.
Onward and Upward! Just our little bit o' crazy...
