I was thinking today about Jake's and my first dates, and it really hit home that it won't be long until we are experiencing this as parents ourselves.
We didn't have the typical dates that others have so to speak...Our dates were rather unconventional and not most peoples idea of a good time to get out and be alone so they can smooch. :)
Lets see, our first date...well there were really just two, and another one that was a possible date....let me explain.
First date and Second date were of a very similar nature...one was at Burger King, and the other was at Wendys...how romantic! Both dates were with......Our Grandparents! Haha! We were without wheels, the both of us, we walked most places, including work.
If I remember correctly Jake's Grandma took us to Burger King, and mine took us to Wendys. By this time we were certain we would get married. I believe this was an attempt on the families part to check out each one of us to see if they approved. Since we walked everywhere, we had ample time for talking, holding hands, and the occasional kiss. We were 18 years old, and we had it all figured out...well, about wanting to spend our lives together that is.
The next get together also consisted of Grandparents, again. My father in laws parents, wanted to meet me, and invited me over for dinner. I think they approved! :)
A couple weeks later, we ran down to the courthouse and got married. Why wait? No big wedding, and party, just us making our lifelong commitment to each other. Everything we have ever done is in an unconventional way. We like to keep things interesting.
So the common denominator in all this is, Grandparents...we love them and value their opinions very much...
And when it comes time for Allison to begin "dating" we expect that our parents be there to take them to Burger King and Wendys...to keep an eye on things. I like how we started out...lets move it on down to the next generation. I'm sure she will LOVE this idea. haha.
After all, Daddy and I did it that way, and look at us now. I'm thinking we won't be as pleased if she tries to get married as quickly as we did. *wink* :)

mommy blogger. As a mother that has suffered the loss of multiple children while becoming a mother of the bride to our oldest, raising 2 young adults, an 8 year old preemie and a 6 year old tornado, I have a lot to share. I can't guarantee you will agree with everything I say, but I think you may just enjoy it. This is our life, the good, bad and ugly.
